Americanism Essay Contest Americanism Essay Contest Winners For the past two school years our Lodge has participated in the Grand Lodge Americanism Essay contest. Our Committee chairman, Jim McFadyen, brought the contest to three middle schools in Indian River County at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year.
The ambition and goal of the Americanism Committee is to quicken the spirit of American patriotism and to stimulate an awareness — a genuine feeling of pride and respect toward patriotism — so that we as Members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will become constant reminders to the people of our Nation that America truly means freedom and that Elks Care and Elks Share.
The contest also demonstrates that Members of your Lodge are proud to be Americans, proud to be Elks and proud to participate in the Americanism programs of Grand Lodge. Your Grand Lodge Fraternal Committee is committed to serving and assisting you as we all show pride.

The Manistee Elks Lodge No. 250 Americanism Essay Contest committee member George Culbert said the local students did an excellent job in writing about that topic. The contest is open to grades 5-8 and teachers have the option of having their students take part in the contest.

The IEA named its Americanism essay contest winners at the Annual meeting in May. Reading their award winning essays, left photo, is fifth-, sixth-grade winner Olivia Partin of Princeton, and seventh-, eighth-grade winner Sophia Stierwalt of Sadorus.
